BORDER VINTAGE AGRICULTURAL ASSOCIATION

The story of the association began when three men met to discuss the possibility of forming a club where interested parties could meet and collect vintage tractors, engines and machinery in fact anything old. Billy Cranston , Alan Dagg, and Alistair McKenzie had all been to the steam gathering in Kendal in September 1976 and visualised a similar event in the borders. Eventually on a December evening in 1976 they put there scheme into action, it was decided to advertise a meeting for interested parties. Around twenty people arrived and after discussion they decided to go ahead with forming the association.

The first big event for the members was the proposed rally to take place in the may 1977 at Newtown St Boswells a great deal of work had to go into getting this organised as this was a new venture and it had to be sold to the public as some thing new in the Border area.

On the day of the rally around 2000 people attended this was very encouraging and was such a success that further rallies were planned on an annual basis.
